Single Leg Takedown Drill – Confidence Through Control  


What you’ll learn:

A child-friendly breakdown of the single leg takedown, emphasizing safety and confidence.

Key Concepts Covered:

  • Safe head positioning (head inside, not outside) to prevent chokes or injuries.
  • Proper grip and leg lift technique.
  • Fun “first to lift the leg” games to develop quick reflexes and commitment.

Confidence booster: Takedowns often fail without commitment. This drill builds the mindset and movement needed to go for it!

Double Leg Takedown Drill – Safe Entry & Powerful Control  


What you’ll learn:

How to teach your child to perform a double leg takedown, block incoming strikes, and finish in the dominant mount position.

Key Concepts Covered:

  • Blocking “punches” with proper defensive arm positioning (using pool noodles for safe simulation).
  • Level changing via squats to avoid strikes and enter safely.
  • Executing the takedown and transitioning to high mount for control.

Bonus tip: Turn the drill into a challenge! Praise effort, reward progress (even with an ice cream!), and watch their skills and confidence soar.

Mount Drill – Mastering Balance in the Top Position 


What you’ll learn:

A dynamic drill focused on maintaining mount and responding to common escape attempts.

Key Concepts Covered:

  • Pointing knees out and wide posting for strong base stability.
  • Reacting with “swimming” arms when arms are pulled in by the bottom player.
  • Shifting weight intelligently when leg or arm is trapped.

Gamified learning: Set a 10–15 second timer, assign levels like “trap the arm” (Stage 1) and “bridge to side” (Stage 2), and turn learning into a game.
